Suzanna’s Musician Story

CDBaby’s DIY Musician Podcast showcased musician stories in their recent podcast. My story got mentioned on the show! My story was little longer and more detailed than they have time for on the show, I wanted to use to encourage other musician to follow their dreams …no matter what. I am a living testimony that anything is possible.

The Ambient Country...is there a music genre?

As a creative person and musician, you engage in various creative endeavors. Recently, I have been adding artistry to what otherwise would have been boring training films or a large company. Since I was doing that, I used my own music for some of the ambient backgrounds. That is how Etherium was composed. Interestingly, the instrumentation made the piece sound slightly Ambient Countrish. I began to wonder if that was even a genre, Ambient Country? That got me to thinking about my next album concept, The Ambient Country.

I entered the JLSWC again this year (for session II). I was one of the winners in the world category (2000) with a song called “Å Nå” (from my album Cielie). Maybe they will have the winners of that year up soon. It looks as though they have been upgrading their site to do just that. I will certainly link it when it is available or just link the certificate.

-

When I was called by a JLSWC marketing representative about “Å Nå,” they said it was the first time they had winner who used a made-up language. Technically speaking, in “Å Nå,” I created syllabic sounds using computer ALT keys to make vocal percussion sounds throughout.

-

Listeners over the years have ascribed their own meaning to the chanting and rhythmic patterns. To me, that is what music really is. It is a form of artistic expression that has a meaning to whoever is observing the art. I guess you can say that musical beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

-

In 2010, I chose to do something different again and entered the competition with a song entitled, “Andu dah Belore.” It is a poem that I composed and then painstakingly translated into made-up language called “Thalassian” using a language generator from a popular online video game. You can listen to the complete song submission below. It will be interesting to learn what listeners ascribe to this song.

-

Since there wasn’t an “other worldly” category to put the song under, I chose “World.” (they didn’t say it had to be our world.)
