The single more important thing I learned as a writer was to allow the characters to be people. They need to have a soul, one that exists within the context of the world they live in. Sure, the plot is important but not at the expense of presenting living characters. The plot is just what is happening to them at the moment. Characters are what the readers cling to through the thick and thin of the story.

Just when I get that writing spark and momentum go

Just when I get that writing spark and momentum going, life steps in and rips it up for a while.
.
When stuff happens, I get caught up in it, unsure of the timing or outcome.
When I’m in it, living day to day through it, sometimes I begin to wonder whether it’s worth picking up the creative work again, or if there is any point in continuing. In the end, art (writing & creating things) is always worth it. Those creations are the things of the soul left behind for others to enjoy for years to come.
